Giving Back - Harakeke Pre school

Image
One of our learning goals this year has been around Giving Back to our local community.   One of the ways we were able to do this was through the giving of Tuakana Teina time to Harakeke Preschool. It was such a lot of fun getting to meet the children and teachers at Harakeke - hopefully they will come and see us all at Upper Moutere School too.

Giving Back - Planting Natives

Image
What an opportunity! Off we went on an adventure to a local farm to help plant out 200 native trees. It was especially special for us because some of the native trees were from right here in our school nursery. How amazing to see them being transplanted and onto the next stage of their life cycle. The people organising were completely impressed - they had no idea how speedy we were at planting out!

Pizza Fundraiser

What a great way to end the term with a pizza lunch! Phoebe was organising the lunch as part of her leadership programme.  With the help of her Mum (Donna the delivery gal) and the kindness of the Staff at Domino's Pizza, we were able to have a tasty super-sized pizza for lunch, plus raise some funds toward our Wellington Camp. Thank you to everyone who supported us and thank you to Donna and Domino's Pizza :)

Firewise - Fire Safety Education

Image
A huge thank you to our local volunteer fire-fighters who came to spend the day with us to give us all insight into being Firewise. As you can see in the photos - even the big kids enjoy dressing up, playing with ladders and hoses, and sitting in a fire engine.  Thank you Upper Moutere Rural Fire Service!

Bake Sale Fundraiser

Thank you for joining us at our Bake Sale :)  It was so well supported by our school community.   Theo organised this Bake sale with a small team as part of his Leadership Programme. He raised money to go toward our Marama Camp in Wellington later this year.

Science Learning - Collaboration and Experiments

Image
We continued our science learning by working our way through the Scientific Process in small groups. We had a go at multiple experiments in class ensuring we followed the steps of the Scientific Method. Through the practising of our experiments we were able to prepare for creating our own experiments.
